When to Choose Aflas® (FEPM)
- Sour gas wells (H₂S present): Aflas® is the standard choice for H₂S-containing environments
- Geothermal energy: Excellent steam resistance up to +230°C
- Phosphate ester-based hydraulic fluids: Aflas® is highly resistant
- Strong acids and bases: Superior to FKM in strong alkaline environments
When to Choose FFKM
- Ultra-high temperature environments beyond +230°C (e.g., geothermal over 230°C)
- High-pressure wellhead: FFKM gaskets for Christmas tree valves
- Chemical processing: Resistance to virtually all chemicals
- Subsea applications: FFKM for deepwater BOP and Christmas tree
NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 Requirements
For oilfield equipment in H₂S service, seals must comply with NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 standards. These standards specify which elastomer grades are approved for use in sour gas environments. Always verify compliance when specifying seals for H₂S-containing wells.
