Custom Rubber Grommets: Molded & Die-Cut for Every Panel

Custom rubber grommets protect wires, cables, and tubing where they pass through panel cut-outs, frames, and enclosures—cushioning against abrasion, damping vibration, and sealing out dust, moisture, and EMI. At Anlintech we mold and die-cut grommets in FKM, silicone, EPDM, NBR, and neoprene to your bore, panel thickness, and flank geometry. Browse our complete rubber grommet size & type guide or our custom grommet manufacturing overview.

Common Grommet Types

  • Closed (solid) grommets – a continuous bushing for insulation where the cable is routed before assembly.
  • Open (split) grommets – snap over an already-installed wire bundle without disconnecting it.
  • Tapered / blind grommets – one-side installation for thin sheet metal and plastic housings.
  • Strain-relief grommets – combine a sealing lip with a cord grip to prevent pull-out.
  • Custom-molded profiles – multi-cavity, flanged, or overmolded shapes to drawing.

Material Selection

Material Best For Temp Range
EPDM Outdoor, UV, weather, ozone -50°C to +150°C
NBR (Buna-N) Oil, fuel, greasy environments -40°C to +120°C
Silicone High temp, food & medical, flexibility -60°C to +230°C
FKM / Viton® Chemical, fuel, heat resistance -20°C to +205°C
Neoprene Weather, flame, moderate oil -40°C to +120°C

Material and durometer choices follow references such as ASTM and ISO; we hold tolerances to ISO 3302-1 Class 1/2.

How to Specify a Grommet

  1. Panel thickness and hole diameter (the grommet must grip both).
  2. Cable or bundle outside diameter.
  3. Service environment: oil, UV, temperature, IP rating.
  4. Durometer (typically 40–80 Shore A).
  5. Color and compliance (FDA, UL 94, RoHS) if required.

Typical Applications

  • Electronics & appliances – wire pass-throughs, strain relief, IP-rated enclosures (see our IP67/IP68 sealing guide).
  • Automotive – firewall and harness grommets (see EPDM automotive seals).
  • Industrial machinery – vibration isolation and hose protection.
  • Marine – saltwater-resistant cable entries.

Manufacturing & Tooling

We compression- and injection-mold grommets and can die-cut simple profiles for prototypes. Low-volume and high-volume runs are both supported—see how custom molding reduces total cost and our compression vs injection molding comparison. Related components are covered on our molded rubber components and rubber seals pages.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a closed and open grommet?

A closed grommet is a continuous ring installed before the cable is passed through; an open (split) grommet snaps around an existing wire bundle, making field retrofit faster.

Which rubber is best for outdoor grommets?

EPDM offers the best long-term UV, ozone, and weather resistance; silicone is preferred when temperature extremes or food/medical contact apply.

Can you mold grommets to a custom flange shape?

Yes. Send a drawing or sample and we mold flanged, tapered, or multi-cavity grommets, including two-shot and overmolded designs.

Do you supply food- or medical-grade grommets?

Yes—silicone and some EPDM compounds meet FDA and USP Class VI requirements for food, beverage, and medical equipment.
